Ed’s Easy Diner – Soho

Eds Diner Menu

I was meeting someone for a show in London and we needed somewhere that was quick and enjoyable to eat. Always looking for a bargain I checked out some of the restaurant apps on my phone to see what was on offer.

Opening my ‘Eds Easy Diner’ app I saw I had over £13 worth of credit with them and so that was the decision made – Eds Easy Diner it was!

Excellently located for Leicester Square & all the cinemas and theatres near-by, I have been here before many occasions. The diner is an 50’s American themed restaurant. It only has bar stools fixed round the main kitchen/serving area. Each pair of stools has its very own jukebox and for 20p you can choose which track comes over the stereo next.

Eds Easy Diner MilkshakeWe arrived and were given two seats immediately. This was good as previously we have had to wait outside to be seated but as we were there a little earlier (6pm) the place was between a late lunch and an early dinner. Well for being in Soho that is!

Our server was Dave who looked after us brilliantly. Menus handed over, but only when we’d got ourselves seated and comfortable. He took our food and drinks order with a smile. Ed’s do amazing milkshakes as well as delicious food so we decided to share one of those. We both went for burgers and one of us got sweet potato fries.

The drinks arrived quickly and the best thing about Ed’s milkshakes (other than the taste!) is that they come in big silver jugs with easily enough in for two people. We had an Oreo milkshake. It was in their ‘premium’ offering however it is definitely worth it

Before too long our main-courses arrived.

  • 1 x Large (8oz) Skinny Smoky Joe’s, on an ‘Eds Plate’.
  • 1 x Regular (5oz) Skinny Blues Burger with a side of Sweet potato fries.

Smokey Joe's Ed PlateThe ‘Eds Plate’ is an option to include regular fries, onion rings and coleslaw to any burger for an extra £4.35. With fries being £2.95 and onion rings being £3.60 you have the opportunity to get decent portions of both for £2 less than ordering them separately. There is the option to ‘upgrade’ the fries on an Ed’s plate to Sweet Potato Fries for only £1.50 but I decided to pass on this upgrade.

Going ‘Skinny’ with a burger means to order it without a bun. Some places just remove the bun and serve like that but Ed’s give you a great side-salad if you order their Skinny options. This is at no extra charge, where as other places will charge extra for this.

Blues Burger Eds Diner The ‘Eds plate’ was delivered without any salad on the plate at all and I was about to mention it to the waiter but he then turned round and delivered a massive bowl of salad. Great! If anything there was too much salad but I vowed to plough through it all.

Both burgers were cooked perfectly and the side portions were of a more than generous size. I had not had any onion rings for quite some time so was very pleased that they not only looked good, they don’t fall into the trap that many onion rings do of being too greasy.

The meal was eaten with no rush, even though the restaurant was getting busier. We asked for the bill and Dave produced it as if by magic. I then asked if I could redeem my Ed’s Club Points and a new bill was created for £13 less. All in all we paid just £17 for an enjoyable meal for two in the heart of London. We probably spent 45 minutes there in total and nothing was too much trouble for the team at Ed’s Easy Diner – Soho.

Will I be going back? Sure thing. Only the next time I will go armed with a pocket full of twenty pence coins!
