I’ve just received an invite from one of my friends to join a Stocks and Share app called ‘Freetrade.io’. They have a joining deal which is certainly appealing. New joiners will receive a free share between the value of £3 and £200! Who doesn’t like a bit of free money?

What is Freetrade.io?

Freetrade.io is an investment app that can help you grow your savings. Its USP is that it currently offers a ‘basic’ account for free. There is a paid account option but the free account will be enough to allow you to get your free share. They also have their own ISA so you can save up-to £20,000 tax free (in the UK).

All this can be done from the comfort of your own mobile phone!

How do you get Freetrade.io?

How do you get the Free Share

Step 1 – Click the link above, DM me on twitter or send me an email ‘info@thereverend.co.uk’ and I’ll send you the link you need.
Step 2 – Add you details
Step 3 – Deposit £1 (via Bank transfer takes an hour or two)
Step 4 – Get your Free Share (shows as a mystery share)
Step 5 – Wait 7-10 days for your share to be revealed
Step 6 – Sell Share (if thats what you want)
Step 7 – Withdraw Cash

You don’t have to spend the £1 but you do need to deposit it on the account. On an iPhone I had the option to make the deposit by bank transfer or ApplePay – I chose the bank transfer.

What Happens Next?

Within a couple of hours of the bank transfer, the £1 should be showing on your account. Once it appears, so should your free mystery share! You’ll see it at the bottom of the ‘Portfolio’ tab of the app. They are marked as ‘Queued’ and should be confirmed within the next 10 days.

Terms & Conditions

You can find them at the bottom  of the freeshare page and the important part is part of the ‘Recipient Terms’. In here it mentions two important things (as well as all the other important T&Cs

• If you sell the free share, you cannot withdraw the cash proceeds for 30 days from the date it was awarded.
• You must fund your account within 30 days of receiving the referral otherwise the award lapses.

Basically, you need to have deposited the £1 (as outlined above) and then you need to wait 30 days from getting the share (so possibly 40 days max from signing up) to withdraw the cash. Its up to you whether you sell the share straight away or you just let it run to try to make a profit on it. Thats trading folks!

Freetrade.io is authorised and regulated by the FCA so you know that your money is safe (up-to the value of £85,000).

The Reverend’s Final Thought

A free share is a fun thing. Although it may be valued anywhere between £3-200, they do explain that there is a reduced chance of getting higher valued shares. They also do say its from a group of about 90 shares and so not from all the FTSE 100 (or FTSE250 either). Worst case scenario is that you only get a £3 share and then you decide whether you want to keep it or sell it. It could be the start of your investing journey or it could be withdrawn and back into your ‘normal’ savings fund. You could even add it to your Chip account and put it towards that new laptop you are thinking about – and you’d be adding to that FREE £10 you got when you joined Chip with the link REVEREND10.
